In the Gospel of John, the charcoal fire symbolizes the blazing mercy of God. It is at a charcoal fire before Jesus' trial that Peter thrice denies that he knows the Lord. After Jesus' Resurrection, it is at a charcoal fire that the Risen Lord has three more questions prepared for Peter: "Do you love me...Do you love me...Do you love me?" Over this charcoal fire, I am preparing my answer for my Lord, and invite you to join in that we may find out just how wonderful this God of ours is.
